Description
The Yale YELB Hydraulic Cylinder with Safety Lock Nut range is engineered for applications where loads must remain securely supported over extended periods. With capacities ranging from 30 to 1100 tonnes, these heavy-duty cylinders are designed for lifting, positioning and supporting extremely heavy loads while providing a positive mechanical load hold independent of hydraulic pressure.
Unlike standard hydraulic cylinders, YELB models feature a robust safety lock nut on the piston rod. Once the load is lifted to the required height, the lock nut can be mechanically tightened against the cylinder body, allowing hydraulic pressure to be released. This converts the cylinder into a solid mechanical support, enabling safe work beneath the load and allowing pumps and hoses to be disconnected entirely.
YELB cylinders are widely used in bridge lifting and lowering, supporting buildings and foundations, steel construction, and heavy machinery installation and maintenance. They are especially suitable for heavy-duty jacking applications where additional safety margins are required, such as long-term structural support, staged lifting operations, or alignment work on large assemblies.
Operating at a maximum pressure of 700 bar, YELB cylinders are single-acting with gravity return, ensuring simple and reliable operation. The piston is supported by generous guiding bands, providing excellent stability under load and reducing wear during lifting. The hard chromium-plated piston with trapezoidal thread delivers high resistance to corrosion, wear and mechanical stress, even in demanding site environments.
An integrated overflow hole provides a definite piston end stop, preventing over-extension and enhancing operational safety. Each cylinder is supplied with an interchangeable hardened saddle, ensuring secure load contact and easy replacement when required. The 3/8 NPT oil port allows compatibility with standard high-pressure hydraulic systems, and every unit includes a female coupler half CFY-1 for quick connection.
For handling and installation, all YELB cylinders are fitted with lifting rings as standard, simplifying transport and positioning on site. Due to the specialised nature of these cylinders and their safety-critical applications, pricing is available on application, allowing specification to match project requirements precisely.

Safety & User Instructions
Always operate within the rated capacity and 700 bar pressure limit.
After lifting, fully engage the safety lock nut before releasing pressure.
Never work beneath a load until the lock nut is securely tightened.
Ensure loads are centred and avoid side loading of the piston.
Use suitable base plates and load-rated supports.
Inspect threads, lock nut, seals and couplers before each use.
Follow all site safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
