Description
The Yale YFS Spring Tensioners are designed for applications where tools or equipment need to be suspended, positioned and automatically returned to a predefined upper position when released. Commonly referred to as tool balancers, these spring tensioners ensure controlled cable retraction while maintaining constant downward force to keep tools at the desired working height.
Available in five models covering capacities from 0.5kg up to 10kg, the YFS range is ideally suited to light and medium-duty industrial applications such as assembly lines, workshops and production environments. Typical uses include supporting pneumatic power tools, assembly tools, paint spray guns, riveting machines, nut runners, grinding tools and polishing machines.
The internal rewind spring is engineered so that torque output increases progressively as the cable is extended. This ensures smooth, controlled retraction and reliable return of the suspended tool to the uppermost adjusted position when released. To hold a tool in its extended working position, a continuous downward force must be applied, promoting better tool control and reducing strain on the operator.
The YFS spring tensioners feature a durable stamped steel construction with a powder-coated housing, providing excellent resistance to impact, wear and everyday industrial conditions. A wear-resistant nylon rope guide reduces abrasion to both the cable and housing, extending service life and ensuring smooth cable travel.
For enhanced safety, all models are equipped with an automatic drum lock in accordance with DIN 15112. An additional hanger is provided for the attachment of a secondary safety chain, also compliant with DIN 15112 requirements, offering extra security when suspending tools above work areas.
Spring tension adjustment is simple and precise. Models YFS-01 and YFS-02 use a central turning wheel combined with a spring lever, while models YFS-03, YFS-04 and YFS-05 are adjusted via a central shaft and spring lever, allowing accurate matching of spring force to the tool weight. An adjustable cable stop enables the spring tensioner to be fixed at the desired working position.
Selected models within the YFS-A series are available with a ratchet-locking device. This mechanism locks the out-retracting rope, allowing unrestricted tool movement during use. The ratchet function can be switched on or off, giving the flexibility to operate the spring tensioner with or without the locking feature as required.
