Description
The Super Alloy SA Grade 8 Lifting Chain (16mm32mm) is a heavy-duty, high-strength alloy steel chain designed specifically for high-capacity lifting and chain sling assembly in industrial environments. Manufactured in accordance with EN 818-2, this large-diameter lifting chain delivers exceptional strength, durability and compliance for professional lifting operations.
Engineered for demanding applications such as heavy fabrication, structural steel handling, plant installation, offshore-equivalent environments (non-hazardous), transport engineering and infrastructure projects, the 16mm32mm Super Alloy SA chain provides reliable performance where substantial working load limits are required.
These larger chain diameters offer significantly increased working load capacities, making them suitable for multi-leg chain sling assemblies and high-tonnage lifting systems. With a minimum safety factor of 4:1 and a static test coefficient of 2.5, the chain is designed to provide dependable strength reserves under properly controlled loading conditions.
The chain must always be loaded in the longitudinal direction, ensuring each link aligns freely with the direction of force. Correct alignment reduces stress concentrations and preserves structural integrity. The chain is designed to operate safely within an ambient temperature range of -40 °C to +200 °C without reduction in working load limit. Where temperatures exceed 200 °C, reduction factors must be applied in accordance with manufacturer guidance. Use below -40 °C or above 400 °C is strictly prohibited.
Super Alloy SA Grade 8 lifting chain (16mm32mm) is intended exclusively for industrial lifting and load handling, including the assembly of heavy-duty chain slings using compatible Grade 8 components, such as master links, clevis hooks and connecting links. When assembling lifting slings, only genuine components of the same nominal size and grade must be used. The working load limit of the final assembly is always determined by the weakest component within the system.
This lifting chain is not suitable for corrosive chemical environments, food-grade applications, explosion-protected areas or exposure to acids and aggressive vapours. It must not be knotted, twisted, welded, drilled, galvanised or heat treated, as these processes compromise the mechanical properties of the alloy steel.
Supplied in compliance with the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, Super Alloy SA lifting chain is accompanied by an operating manual and declaration of incorporation. The manual must remain available throughout the products service life.
Safety & User Instructions
Use only by trained and competent lifting personnel.
Always inspect the chain before each use for wear, cracks, deformation or corrosion.
Never exceed the stated working load limit and apply reduction factors where required.
Avoid shock loading, impact loading and edge loading.
Chain links must align freely with the load direction during lifting.
Do not use in chemically aggressive or corrosive environments.
Welding, heat treatment, straightening or surface modification is not permitted.
Remove from service immediately if elongation exceeds permissible limits or identification markings are illegible.
Annual inspection by a competent person is mandatory, with shorter intervals under intensive use.
Maintenance & Storage
Clean regularly and remove dirt, oil and rust before inspection.
Lightly oil to protect against corrosion where required.
Store in a clean, dry environment, ideally suspended on racks.
Keep away from thermal, corrosive and mechanical damage during storage.
Inspection and maintenance records should be retained for the products service life.
