The Crosby S-423T Super Terminator Wedge Socket is an advanced wire rope termination solution engineered specifically for modern high-performance wire ropes, including high-strength compacted strand and rotation-resistant ropes commonly used in demanding lifting and rigging operations.
Designed to deliver reliable performance and improved installation efficiency, the S-423T wedge socket achieves a minimum efficiency rating of 80% based on the catalogue breaking strength of most high-performance wire ropes. This makes it ideal for crane lifting systems, offshore rigging, marine operations, and heavy industrial lifting applications where safety and durability are critical.
Unlike conventional wedge sockets, the Super Terminator design eliminates the difficulty of properly seating the wedge when working with high-performance wire ropes. This innovative design removes the traditional �first load� requirement often needed to seat a wedge in standard terminations. As a result, installation is quicker, safer, and more consistent, reducing downtime during rigging operations.
The S-423T wedge system securely captures the tail (dead end) of the wire rope, preventing wedge punch-out and eliminating the need for additional rope tails. The rope tail remains undeformed, as it is held securely by the base clip and tensioning system. This improves rope longevity and significantly reduces the risk of fatigue-related failures.
Manufactured from high-strength cast steel, each socket basket is individually magnetic particle inspected to ensure structural integrity and reliability under heavy loads. The wedge and accessory components are supplied with a durable zinc finish to provide corrosion resistance in demanding industrial and marine environments.
The S-423T wedge socket assembly includes socket, wedge, pin, wire rope clip, tensioner, bolts, and a secondary retention wire, delivering a complete termination system ready for installation. The socket is also available as the S-423TB version, supplied with a bolt, nut, and cotter pin assembly for additional fastening options.
Engineered to meet and exceed ASME B30.26 standards, the S-423T also complies with EN13411-6 performance requirements and the Federal Specification RR-S-550F Type C. These certifications ensure compliance with critical safety and performance criteria including design factor, ductility, proof load testing, fatigue resistance, impact properties, and full material traceability.
An additional advantage of the Super Terminator system is its retrofit compatibility.
