Description
The Pewag KWB Super Alloy Sub-Assembly G is a heavy-duty Grade 8 (G8) head master link assembly specifically engineered for use in 3-leg and 4-leg chain sling systems. Designed for professional lifting and rigging applications, this high-performance sub-assembly provides a secure and reliable connection point between multi-leg chain slings and crane hooks.
Manufactured from premium Super Alloy steel and produced to exacting quality standards, the Sub-Assembly G meets the essential safety requirements of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. It is intended for incorporation into certified lifting accessories and must be used in accordance with the official operating manual and UK lifting regulations.
With a Working Load Limit (WLL) ranging from 4,200kg up to 76,000kg (0°45°) depending on chain size and configuration, the Sub-Assembly G is suitable for heavy industrial lifting across construction, civil engineering, steel fabrication, shipbuilding support operations (excluding offshore lifting), manufacturing plants and heavy mechanical handling environments.
The Sub-Assembly G acts as the head ring assembly in 3-leg and 4-leg chain slings, allowing multiple chain legs to connect safely to a single crane hook. Each small link within the assembly may accommodate a maximum of two chain legs, ensuring controlled load distribution and compliance with lifting standards.
This assembly integrates seamlessly with:
KWB Super Alloy Grade 8 chains
Connecting links
Lifting hooks
Approved multi-leg chain sling components
Each component within the Sub-Assembly G must move freely and align correctly in the direction of the applied load. Loads must act longitudinally and within the plane of the link. The inclination angle of adjusted chain legs must not exceed 60°.
Manufactured with a static test coefficient of 2.5 times the WLL of each sling section and a safety factor of 4:1, the Sub-Assembly G delivers dependable strength and performance under controlled lifting conditions. The approved operating temperature range is -40°C to +200°C, making it suitable for cold storage, outdoor construction sites and demanding industrial environments.
Safety & User Instructions
The Pewag KWB Sub-Assembly G must only be assembled and used by competent and qualified personnel trained in lifting operations.
Before Each Use:
– Inspect for visible signs of cracks, deformation, corrosion or wear.
– Ensure identification markings and WLL information are legible.
– Confirm compatibility with correct chain diameter (e.g. G 10.8 for 10mm chain).
– Check that all rings move freely and align with the load direction.
Operating Requirements:
– Load must act longitudinally within the plane of the link.
– Maximum chain leg inclination: 60°
– Avoid shock loading or sudden impact forces.
– Apply load smoothly during lifting and lowering.
Temperature reduction factors:
– 200°C300°C: reduction factor 0.9
– 300°C400°C: reduction factor 0.75
– Use below -40°C or above 400°C is strictly prohibited.
Not suitable for:
Lifting persons
Offshore operations
Molten metals or nuclear materials
Food, cosmetic or pharmaceutical applications
Explosion-protected areas
Exposure to strong acids or aggressive chemicals
Transverse or flexural loading
The overall WLL of the lifting assembly is determined by the weakest component in the sling system.
Maintenance, Inspection & Storage
Clean regularly and lightly oil to prevent corrosion.
Inspect before each use in a clean condition.
Annual inspection by a competent person is mandatory (shorter intervals under heavy use).
Crack testing recommended every two years.
Remove from service immediately if deformation, cracks, excessive wear (±10% dimensional change) or heat damage is identified.
Welding, heat treatment, straightening or modification is strictly prohibited.
Store cleaned, dried and protected from corrosion in a controlled environment.
The final lifting accessory incorporating the Sub-Assembly G must be declared in conformity with Directive 2006/42/EC before being placed into service.
Applications
Multi-leg chain sling assemblies
Construction and infrastructure projects
