Single-leg chain slings are rated for vertical lifting only. When wrapped or choked around a load and hooked back onto themselves, they remain classed as single-leg slings and their Working Load Limit must be reduced to 80% of the vertical rating. Tight choke angles, small load diameters and sharp edges further reduce capacity and increase risk. Always ensure correct sling configuration and never exceed the adjusted WLL; for higher loads or frequent choking applications, use a correctly rated basket or multi-leg sling.

Two-leg chain slings must be used within their rated angle range. The Working Load Limit is based on the angle between the legs: up to 45° provides the highest capacity, while 45°–60° significantly reduces the WLL due to increased leg tension. If a two-leg sling is wrapped, choked, or both legs are lashed around the load, it no longer achieves true load sharing and must be treated as a single-leg or choked lift with a reduced capacity. Always observe the angle markings on the sling tag, avoid uneven loading, and never exceed the adjusted WLL; for unstable or irregular loads, alternative lifting methods should be used.

Three-leg chain slings must be used within their rated angle range. The Working Load Limit is based on the inclination of each leg: angles up to 45° allow full rated capacity, while 45°–60° angles reduce WLL due to uneven load distribution and higher tension in each leg. If one or more legs are wrapped, choked, or lashed around the load, the load sharing is compromised and the sling should be treated as a reduced-capacity lift. Always follow the sling tag ratings, ensure even load distribution, and never exceed the adjusted WLL to maintain safe lifting operations.

Four-leg chain slings must be used within their rated angle range. For inclinations up to 45°, the WLL applies as stated, but as angles increase toward 60°, the load on each leg rises, reducing effective capacity. If legs are wrapped, choked, or lashed around the load, uneven tension occurs, and the sling must be treated as having a reduced WLL. Always follow the sling tag ratings, ensure even load distribution, and never exceed the adjusted WLL to maintain safe lifting.

Description

Pewag KWB Grade 8 Ready-Made Chain Slings provide a robust, flexible and cost-effective lifting solution for professional users operating in construction, engineering, manufacturing, utilities and heavy industry. Manufactured using Pewag KWB Super Alloy Grade 80 components, these chain slings are assembled in full compliance with EN 818-4, ensuring high safety standards, traceability and consistent lifting performance.

Each sling is custom-built to order, allowing users to specify chain diameter, number of legs, sling termination type, shortening options and effective working length (reach). This ensures the sling is perfectly matched to the application, improving lifting efficiency, safety and ease of use compared with off-the-shelf alternatives.

Grade 8 (G80) alloy chain offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, making slings lighter and easier to handle while maintaining high working load limits. Pewag KWB chains and fittings are manufactured from quenched and tempered alloy steel, delivering outstanding resistance to wear, fatigue and shock loading in demanding lifting environments.

The slings are available as single-leg, two-leg, three-leg or four-leg configurations, suitable for a wide variety of loads and lifting geometries. A choice of latch hooks, C hooks or self-locking safety hooks allows compatibility with different lifting points, while optional shortening grab hooks enable rapid leg length adjustment to accommodate uneven or asymmetrical loads.

Pewag KWB Grade 8 chain slings are suitable for both straight lifts and angled lifts, with clearly defined working load limits depending on sling configuration and angle of inclination. This makes them ideal for workshops and sites where lifting requirements change frequently.

All slings are supplied ready to use, complete with a Declaration of Conformity, identification tag and safe use instructions, supporting compliance with LOLER and workplace lifting regulations. For specialist applications, larger chain sizes, alternative configurations and spare components are available on request.

Working load limits vary by chain size, sling configuration and angle of use. Typical capacities include:
6 mm chain: up to 2.36 t (3–4 leg, ≤45°)
8 mm chain: up to 4.25 t (3–4 leg, ≤45°)
10 mm chain: up to 6.70 t (3–4 leg, ≤45°)
13 mm chain: up to 11.20 t (3–4 leg, ≤45°)
Full load charts and configuration guidance are available on request.

Safety & User Instructions

Use only within the stated working load limits
Always consider sling angle and load symmetry
Inspect slings before use and at regular intervals
Remove from service if links, hooks or fittings show wear, deformation or cracking
Do not modify or repair slings without manufacturer approval
Only competent persons should select and use lifting slings
